While I cherish my aloneness, I am hardly a social recluse. In fact, I am the mother of two adult children, a special education teacher with friends, spiritual companions and prayer partners. I enjoy a satisfying social network and yet I am also removed from it. In Benedictine terms, I am in the world and yet not of it.
